Abstract
: 
This report was authorized by the Office of the Federal Inspector. It is a comprehensive history of the Office and the events leading up to its establishment, including the Alaska Natural Gas Transportation Act and presidential and congressional sponsorship for the Alaska Natural Gas Transportation System. It includes discussion on Northern Border Pipeline Company (building the Eastern Leg) and Pacific Gas Transmission Company (building the Western Leg), and mention of early oil discovery and prospecting that preceded the 1968 Prudhoe Bay oil field.
