Abstract:
Hawaii has the highest electrical costs among all 50 U.S. states. Several factors, including the Jones Act and the state's investments into renewable energy sources, make LNG shipments prohibitive. The Gas Co. wants to try a small LNG pilot project. There are options to ship LNG from the Alaska North Slope and from the Gulf of Mexico using Texas ports, but federal shipping laws interfere.
