Abstract:
The Jeanne Ostnes Papers consist of one document box of Ostnes's research materials pertaining to the history of Iditarod, Flat, and other locations in the Iditarod and Innoko Mining Districts of Alaska, as well as to Knik, Alaska, and the Iditarod dogsled race. The collection includes Ostnes's research notes; a typed transcription of an interview with Alaskan pioneer Anna Larson; Ostnes family photographs; copies of historical photographs of gold dredges, hydraulic mining, and social activities in the Iditarod and Innoko regions; a House Resolution, Alaska State Legislature, honoring pioneer miner Lars R. Ostnes; and photocopies of printed materials.
Biographical/Historical Data:
Jeanne Ostnes is the granddaughter of Lars R. Ostnes (1883-1972), one of the earliest of the Alaskan pioneer miners. He originally came to Alaska in 1904 and worked in all phases of the mining industry.
