Abstract:
The Charles C. and Florence Personeus Photographs contain 16 photographs and 2 postcards. The photographs are of Pentecostal congregations and churches in Cordova, Klukwan, Valdez, Ketchikan, Juneau, and Anchorage, Alaska. Revivals, baptismal services, children's Christmas programs are also depicted. Charles, Florence, and their son, Byron are also in some of the photographs. The 2 postcards show aerial views of Cordova, Alaska.
Biographical/Historical Data:
Charles Cardwell Personeus was born in 1888 in New York City and died on 10 October 1986 in Ellensburg, Washington at the age of 98. In 1917, Personeus and his wife, Florence, founded the 1st Assembly of God Church in Juneau, Alaska where both served as pastors until 1938. In 1948 the church in Pelican, Alaska was opened and the couple served as pastors there until 1958. After retiring, Charles and Florence settled in Seward but continued traveling all over Alaska to fill in for pastors on leave. The couple had 2 children, Byron (1918-2008) and Anna.
