Abstract:
The Owen Martin Jr. Photographs consist of photographs taken by Owen Martin Jr. and by the 72nd Reconnaissance Squadron of Fairbanks, Alaska and the surrounding terrain. Images of note include aerial views of Fairbanks during one of the many floods that plagued the area prior to the completion of the Chena River Lakes Flood Control Project in nearby North Pole, as well as photographs depicting casual military life in the mid-1940s. Most photos are not annotated with a date, and can only be loosely attributed to the mid-1940s when Owen Martin Jr. served in Fairbanks.

Owen Martin Jr. was a member of the United States Air Force's 72nd Reconnaissance Squadron, and served at Ladd Airfield in Fairbanks, AK from 1942 - 1945. He was born on October 16th, 191 in the town of Mexico, Missouri. He died in February of 1950 in an automobile accident in Molino, Florida.
