Abstract:
The collection consists of 34 black-and-white photograph prints (7 x 9 cm.-11 x 17 cm.) and a report (12 p. ; 27 cm.) entitled "Report of inspection - Mountain Village Hospital, September 13, 1939" written by Vera Liebel, chief nurse at Mountain Village Hospital at that time. Subjects of the photographs include Old Bethel Hospital (originally thought to be Mountain Village Hospital) rooms, staff, and patients, as well as images of airplanes, aerial views of Juneau, and Vera's family.

Biographical/Historical Data:
Vera Liebel came to Alaska in the 1930's where she worked as a nurse. She was stationed at Mountain Village Hospital in Mountain Village, Alaska as a nurse in 1939. While in Alaska she learned to fly and later in life became a commercial bush pilot. She stopped nursing in the early 1950's and died at the age of 87 in the Mountain View neighborhood of Anchorage.
