Abstract:
Brooke Childrey talks about her work as the curator of record for the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park, Seattle Unit, helping with their cultural resource issues, working with graduate student interns from the University of Washington and their exhibits, Tarin Erickson, expansion of the Seattle Unit's responsibilities, Wing Luke Asian Museum, Bainbridge Island Japanese American Exclusion Memorial, superintendents Karen Beppler-Dorn, Jacqueline Ashwell, and Charles Beall, collection of artifacts, her education, working for the National Park Service after graduating from Oregon State University, working at Abraham Lincoln's home in Springfield, Illinois, inventorying the collection in Lincoln's home before a restoration project, working for Boston National Historical Park as a museum technician, learning from John Mayones, working for Acadia National Park and St. Croix Island International Historic Site, William H. Proctor, coming to Mount Rainier National Park in November 2005, starting her curator of record position at Klondike Seattle in 2008, organizing collections, using the Interior Collections Management System, cataloging, finding aids, the John Hielscher Collection, where their collections come from, keeping records, permanent exhibits at Seattle, rotating exhibits, involving Skagway, on the job training, working with Parks Canada, learning the history of the park and research, how the gold rush affected Seattle, the Nisqually Earthquake in 2001 damaging the brick buildings in Pioneer Square, working with Historic Seattle, their office in the Cadillac Hotel, having the majority of the Klondike Seattle collection cataloged, the importance of the collections to Klondike Seattle, the outreach program for Washington parks, historian positions, help with preservation, her accomplishments at Klondike Seattle, history playing a huge role in her career, Klondike Gold Rush International Historical Park, notable artifacts in their collection, businesses started with Klondike gold, the park archives and contents, donations and people wanting to sell their collections, their budget, and local school children visitation to their collections.
