Abstract:
Ruby Jackson talks about being born and raised in Killisnoo, her children and grandchildren, the herring plant in Killisnoo, the battleship USS Rodman and trading bead work for Navy uniforms, the Navy band and the dances at the clubhouse, herring oil and how it is processed, her brother Walter's experiences working in the herring cannery, her experiences working in the herring cannery, the history of the herring cannery, her step-father and his family history, the smallpox epidemic at Killisnoo, the location of Killisnoo Island, the town of Tyee and the story of why it used to be named Murder Cove, the many different nationalities that were in Killisnoo when she was a child, the gardens on Admiralty Island, potatoes and tobacco grown in the gardens on Admiralty Island, Jim Sharp's farm in Hood Bay, how she learned how to speak the Tlingit language so well, and the similarities between the Tlingit and Latin languages.
