Abstract:
Clay Alderson talks about the Downtown Historic District restoration, the creation of the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park, and introduces national Park Service historian Frank Norris. Frank Norris talks about the building they are dedicating, reasons for preserving the building, the founding and history of Skagway, the Klondike gold rush, history of the Mascot, the town marshal closing down the saloons and liquor stores in Skagway in 1916, the present-day building and exhibits. Clay Alderson talks about the restoration of the building, restoration of some of the buildings and leasing them back to the public, use of the back sections of the building for processing, acquiring the bar for the saloon, and introduces Tom Elliot from the Canadian Parks Service. Tom Elliott talks about Jay Cable, representing the Canadian portion of the Chilkoot Trail, presentation of a Canadian warden Stetson hat to Jay Cable. Jay Cable talked about working with the wardens. Clay Alderson thanked Jay Cable for his work and announces the participants for the cutting of the ribbon.
