Abstract:
Dorothy Polzin is interviewed by Robyn Russell in Fairbanks, Alaska on March 25, 2003. Polzin talks about growing up in a Tlingit longhouse near Sitka. At 13 she was married to Lloyd Brownson, and after Polzin graduated from high school they moved to Fairbanks. She talks about homesteading in the Porcupine River region, as well as living in Talkeetna, where she and her husband met and flew with Don Sheldon, and Polzin became friends with Mary Carey. Polzin tells about her children and the death of Brownson, and recounts different stories of Talkeetna and amusing unexpected occurrences. Polzin also talks about how to cook several wild plants, and how to make coffee from dried dandelion root.
