Abstract:
Harvey Marlin, Jr. is interviewed by Margaret Van Cleve on June 14, 1994 in Fairbanks, Alaska. Marlin came to Alaska in 1929 with his family to live on a fox farm between Fairbanks and Nenana. Marlin graduated from Fairbanks High School in 1937, and worked in gold mining at Cleary dredge, Pedro dredge, and Cripple Creek #10 dredge until World War II. He spent the war years in the National Guard in places including Fort Richardson, Attu, and India. Marlin and Bobby Mitchell, along with three childhood friends, formed Ghemm Construction Company in 1952. The company has constructed bridges and buildings nearly everywhere north of the Alaska Range.
