Abstract:
John Miscovich is interviewed by Rolfe Buzzell and Steve Posgate on July 24 and 26, 1993 in Flat, Alaska. Mary Miscovich also contributes some information, and Julia Steel is present as an interviewer on the second half of the interview. On July 24, John talks about the investigation of Harry Donnelley, owners of Flat dredges, the Donnelley house, competition of Donnelley and Matheson, warehouses and the Donnelley complex, the Iditarod River's changing course, the cold storage plant that was formerly on a barge, the Assay Office, Dave Wintz's house, Donnelley moving his business to Kodiak, Johnny Stevens, the process for moving buildings and dredges, the Iditarod-Flat Tramway, the Agoff house, the post office, Tom Jensen, Fred Demientieff, Turner and Wood's warehouse, Agoff's garage, the pump station, thawing tailing piles, the diversity of Flat's working population, staking claims, and Mrs. Matheson's gatherings. On July 26, John describes the Iditarod-Flat Tramway route, the Signal Corps building, Signal Corps workers, leaving Flat for the military during WWII, use of the Signal Corps building by others, fighting fires in Flat, the Fullerton house, Harold Byrd, the Demientieff house, the Demientieff family, Johnny Baquir, Frankie Hatten, and Al Remmington.
