Abstract:
Lena Phipps and Lila Mae King talk to Catherine "Mike" Dalton in their home in Fairbanks, Alaska about coming to Alaska, living in Seward and Fairbanks, moving to the Grundler telegraph station near Big Delta, her children's education, living on the Goodpaster river, growing vegetables to keep in the root cellar, keeping chickens, picking and canning berries, Lena's marriage to Oscar Phipps, Oscar's job at the F.E. Company, their involvement with the Tanana Valley Sportsmen's Association, caribou migrations, various birthdays, harrowing experiences, Lila's weather reporting for the Civilian Aviation Administration, Lila's marriage to Al King, the parrot that they had, experiences with bears, Lena going to Cuba, Lena's experience as Queen Regent, traveling on the White Pass railroad, the 1967 flood, various Pioneer activities that they participate in, and the Pioneer Auxiliary.
