Abstract:
On Side A, Maurice Goding is interviewed by an unidentified female in Fairbanks, Alaska on January 8, 1955. Goding talks about the White Pass Yukon Railroad, which he worked with for many years; prospecting; his sourdough starter recipe; the beginnings of tourism in Skagway; and recites part of a Robert Service poem. The Pedro Monument Dedication from July 4, 1954 is rebroadcast on January 8, 1955: Gus Conrad gives a speech in which he gives a personal account of the history preceding and following Pedro's strike. He talks about the growth of Fairbanks, and lists names of early miners on the outlying creeks. After Conrad's speech, Frank Chapados recites a portion of the ritual of the Pioneers of Alaska and places a wreath on the monument. Robert McKenna then closes the ceremony by talking about more recent pioneering projects in Alaska, and he lauds the pioneering spirit that makes success possible.

On Side B, Charlie Jones, of the first Alaska Legislature, is interviewed by an unidentified female interviewer in Fairbanks, Alaska on July 4, 1954 and Janurary 6, 1955. Jones speaks on the members and organization of the first Alaska Legislature in 1913. He also talks about working as the U.S. Marshall in Nome during prohibition; the way gold was discovered there by Lindenberg, Lindblom, and Bryntesen; laying out the mining district; and the ousting of Judge Noyes. Frank Thieson is interviewed by an unidentified female interviewer in Fairbanks, Alaska on January 8, 1955. Thieson, a seasoned miner, talks about mining along different creeks in the Koyukuk, placer and lode mines, prospecting in the old days versus today (1950s), women in the bush, and the convenience that airplanes offer.
