Abstract:
LeNora Conkle is interviewed by Kathy Price in North Pole,Alaska on July 15, 2002. Conkle talks about coming to Alaska with her husband in 1946, where he found work hauling for Ladd Field. LeNora began doing interior decorating for many officers' homes. She talks about adjustment to and coping with cold weather, heating systems, and social life in Fairbanks, when women would arrive wearing evening gowns under their heavy winter clothing. She mentions different stores in Fairbanks, the shipment of groceries, and servicemen and homesteaders remaining in Alaska.
