Includes letter, both holograph and typescript, and accompanying information about the letter writer and circumstances around which the letter was written.
Biographical/Historical Data:
Letter begun Nov. 6, 1882, and continued on the 20th and 24th of November, from "Frank," an unidentified American naval officer on the USS Adams to "Charlie" in Massachusetts; Frank was stationed at Sitka, Alaska, and writes of the destruction of the Tlingit village of Angoon on Admiralty Island on October 26, 1882; he also reports on the voyage to Alaska, and life in Sitka. Frank is probably Frank H. Clark, Assistant to the Paymaster, who served on the USS Adams, Pacific Station, from 1881 to 1884.
