Abstract:
Presents a portrait of Filipino farm laborers who came to the United States in the 1920s and 1930s expecting a more prosperous life-style. Voicing their recollections these now elderly men reveal the poverty and social and cultural difficulties they experienced. Because few Filipino women settled in the United States the social life of the men centered around common law marriages, athletic clubs, illegal cock fights and dance halls.
