This report is the result of collaboration between Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve, the Cheesh'na Tribal Council and the Mount Sanford Tribal Consortium (MTSC). The Cheesh'na Tribal Council approached Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve park staff with the idea, park staff secured funding and the project was carried out through cooperative agreement with the Mount Sanford Tribal Consortium.
Abstract:
This book presents an anthology of community histories from locations in the Nabesna District of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve that are associated with the Upper Ahtna community of Chistochina. It is based on oral history interviews conducted with Ahtna elders in 2012 along with previously conducted interviews, monographs from earlier U.S.G.S. expeditions to the area, and other anthropological and historical literature. This region includes the area of the Upper Tanana people.
