Biographical/Historical Data:
Sally Carrighar received a Guggenheim fellowship, and took up the study of the Eskimos and wild animals of the Arctic. She stayed nine years, part of the time in Unalakleet, a primitive, isolated village, supporting herself through writing when her fellowship ran out. Carrighar wrote three books based on her years in the Arctic-- Icebound Summer, Moonlight at Midday, and Wild Voice of the North.
