Abstract:
The collection includes photographs from an album compiled following President Harding's 1923 visit to Alaska. A small amount of memorabilia from the visit is included. Additional views, which Marguerite used in her story, "A President Visits Alaska, Personal Memories of the Visit of President and Mrs. Harding," Alaska Journal, Autumn, 1973, also make up the collection. President and Mrs. Harding began their journey at Tacoma, Washington aboard the U.S. Navy transport Henderson. They spent 15 days in the Territory of Alaska, visiting Metlakatla, Ketchikan, Wrangell, Juneau, Skagway, Seward, Anchorage, Wasilla, Willow, Nenana, Fairbanks, Cordova, and Sitka.

Biographical/Historical Data:
Marguerite was the youngest of the seven children born to Scott and Mary Bone. Scott Cardelle Bone was Alaska's 10th territorial governor who served from June, 1921 until Aug., 1925. Not quite seventeen, Marguerite left a New York girls' school and came to Alaska with her parents and lived in the Governor's mansion until 1922, when she went south to attend the University of Washington, returning summers. During her stay in the mansion she led tourists, celebrities and official delegates on tours of the mansion in addition to partaking in a full life with school friends.
