Abstract:
The Davis collection contains 35 black and white photographs of various sizes regarding Rosemary Davis' teaching career in Alaska. The photographs show Rosemary, high school basketball teams, school band class, Douglas Island Women's club, native school children, the Bethel Beach Home for native children (Christine Peterson and Mrs. Millie Stevenson, missionaries in charge). Rosemary is in many of the photographs and is holding a saxophone in the band class photo.

Biographical/Historical Data:
Rosemary McVeigh Davis was a school teacher in several places in Southeast Alaska including possibly Treadwell, Juneau, Douglas, and Metlakatla. Rosemary spoke Tlingit, was made an honorary member of the ANS and was an adopted member of the raven tribe. She also traveled with the "fishing fleet" and taught at outlying schools. The donor relates from Stewart Davis' stories of his mother that her heart was always in Alaska.
