Abstract:
The Prudhoe Bay oil discovery in January 1968 created the need for a haul road, so supplies and equipment could be stationed for building the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. Alyeska contracted with the Alaska Department of Highways to plan on building the road, which was completed in September 1974. This shows the building of the Alaska Haul Road, later called the Dalton Highway.
