Abstract:
These Alaskan images by various photographers represent some of the earliest Alaska photographs. Most are rare and/or fragile and unsuitable for constant handling. The views are largely from the pre-gold rush period and are generally original prints. Subjects cover all areas of Alaska but are concentrated in Southeast Alaska. Photographers represented in this collection include G.W. Landerkin, Reuben Albertstone, Harrison Bros. (Juneau), Isaac W. Taber (San Francisco), J.M. Blankenberg, Lance Burdon, C. Stites, Winter & Pond, Eugene S. Willard, E. Chamberlin, George Mercer, W.B. Byram, Heimberger & Son (Indiana), (Sydney?) Hamilton, B.W. Kilburn, Asahel Curtis, Peterson Brothers (Seattle), and Walter Strand. The collection is ongoing.
