Abstract:
Harry Snyder worked at the Alaska Treadwell Gold Mining Co. at Treadwell, Alaska, during its peak, 1916, and during the Glory Hole cave-in, 1917. The material in this collection was gathered from his own resources and those of 5 other men who also worked at Treadwell: Virgil G. Moore, Leo J. Higley, Alex Morgan, George E. McDonnell, and Bob Traver. The albums contain photographs with detailed captions and Treadwell history (the mine and the town). One album includes photographs (some color) of the Treadwell area taken by Mr. Snyder in 1966-1967 during a return trip to the area. Mr. Snyder prepared these albums to convey the color, flavor, and magnitude of an era along the Gastineau Channel that is long gone.
