Abstract:
Includes Juneau businesses, hotels, residences, individuals and groups, such as the Alaska Native Brotherhood and Diamond Drill Crew (Chickaloon) and soldiers at Excursion INlet and other locations during World War II. Includes photo of old Juneau Courthouse (site of current State Office Building), ca. 1910, and the first Alaska State Legislature. Douglas, Treadwell, Skagway, Anchorage, Excursion Inlet and villages around Alaska, Yukon and other parts of Canada are also represented in the collection. Some individuals are identified, but many are not. Commercially produced photopostcards of sled dog races, Alaskan Natives, and scenes around Alaska make up a large part of the collection. A collection of photopostcards featuring Douglas families, ca. 1900, was added in 2004. Her collection is ongoing.
Biographical/Historical Data:
Candace "Candy" Waugaman, an Alaska resident since the late 1960's, has collected historical postcards and photographs, ephemera such as travel brochures, sheet music, books, and memorabilia from Alaska and the Yukon for over 20 years. Her personal collection numbers over 40,000. Ms. Waugaman's collection has been featured by the Anchorage Museum of History and Art for an exhibit, "Gold Fever in the North." She serves as volunteer and board member for several nonprofit agencies including Secretary of the Tanana-Yukon Historical Society and President of the Alaska Historical Sociey (2002). She recently worked on the Organization Committee for the International Symposium on Mining. A real estate broker by trade, Ms. Waugaman lives in Fairbanks. [From: MS 156.].
