Abstract:
Summary: Host Moses Wassillie introduces three segments about issues in Alaska. The first segment, about crab fishing near Yakutat, includes images of the Yakutat waterfront, and the crew of the crab boat "Gulf Queen" setting and pulling crab pots. Those interviewed include fisherman David Brown, and skipper Bob Proulx. The second segment, about the U.S. Bureau of Land Management transportation corridor plan, includes opposing views about the proposal to develop a system of 40 new transportation and utility corridors throughout the State of Alaska, which would serve to connect many villages to other villages and cities by road or railroad. Those interviewed include Reggie Joseph of Stevens Village, Tom Schoder of the BLM planning team, Chief Ronald Sam of Alatna, Billy Morgan of Aniak, and Glenn Fredericks of Sleetmute. The segment also contains images of a Wien 737 airplane being unloaded, and interior views of the Northern Commercial Company store at McGrath. The final segment features Eskimo artist Esther Norton of Kotzebue and her creations.
