Abstract:
Walter Teeland, his wife, Vivian Teeland, and his sisters, Hazel Teeland Ostrander and Mabel Teeland Holbrook talk about the family's trip up the Koyukuk River to Coldfoot from Ruby in 1915. The Teeland family followed the gold strikes from camp to camp before settling in Ruby, Alaska where their father, John Teeland, had a blacksmith shop and freight hauling business. This particular trip to Coldfoot following the gold strike there was delayed when young May Teeland, then two years old, was attacked by a pack of loose dogs. She was badly injured and the family had to wait until she recuperated enough to stand the trip. By the time the Teelands arrived at Coldfoot the next year, the strike was over. The family talks about some of the pioneers at Coldfoot. Also mentioned on this tape is Hazel's son, Steve, and his then wife, Georgie.
