General Note:
Raw footage containing both black and white and color segments. Location of most of the original film is unknown. Films were transferred to Betamax videotape during the 1980s by George Lounsbury. Alaska Film Archives copied the Betamax videotapes to Digibeta videotape surrogates, after which the Betamax videotapes were discarded.

AAF-6160 Part 1 Images include Howard Hughes landing at Fairbanks during his 1938 round-the-world flight, airplanes at Weeks Field in Fairbanks and Merrill Field in Anchorage, ocean travel, Juneau, Pacific Alaska Airways Lockheed Electras in flight, Nome waterfront, Mirow airways flying boat, gold mining operations, aerial tramway mining operation at Hatcher Pass (?), Alaska Railroad bus on tracks, various Ice Carnival parades in Fairbanks including 1940, 1946, and 1957, Mastadon Mining company, sternwheeler Whitehorse, new Caterpillars on flatbed railcars, walking dragline near Fairbanks, Caterpillars and waterfront at Nome, Pacific Alaska Airways Pilgrim being fueled. AAF-6160 Part 2 images include people on Fairbanks street, F.E. company buildings, cat train, pilot Jimmie Mattern and Lockheed Electra "Texan" at Weeks Field in Fairbanks during search for Russian polar flyer Sigismund Levanevsky, ship travel, bus in Fairbanks, dog races, Sigrid Seppala in parka approaches camera, Ice Carnival parade, Fairbanks streets, winter bus travel on Steese Highway, snowblowers, Ice Carnival activities along Chena River and dog racing. AAF-6161 Parts 1 and 2 contain footage that is identical to AAF-6160 Parts 1 and 2, but portions are narrated by George Lounsbury.
