Fenton arrived in Fairbanks in 1940, where her husband Richard "Mac" Fenton was working as a pharmacist at McIntosh and Kubon Drugstore. Catherine talks about working as a telephone operator at the Northern Commercial Company, which supplied phone service to downtown Fairbanks. After WWII, the Fentons opened Fenton's Pharmacy across from the Co-op on Second Avenue. They moved their business to the Northward Building in 1952.
