Abstract:
Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act (ANILCA) (d-2) public hearings of the Joint Federal-State Land Use Planning Commission at San Francisco, California (excerpts). Part 1 (AAF-2902) Excerpts from the D-2 Land Hearings in April and May of 1973. Presented are the opinions of Alaskans on the reservation for study of 80 million acres of federal land for possible inclusion in the four federal land systems. A Native Alaskan man is interviewed about moose hunting. Village scenes are shown, including a view of the McGrath Trading Post. Excerpts of testimony given by Alaskans are shown. Those testifying are identified by title screens in which some names are misspelled. Correct spellings, if known, are given here in parentheses. Testimony is heard from: John Schaffer (John Schaeffer, Jr.), executive director of NANA Corporation; Susy Panniak (Susie Paneak) of Anaktuvuk Pass; Joe Upicksoun, President of Arctic Slope Regional Corporation; Ella Vernatti (Vernetti?) of Koyukuk; James Huntington of Galena, board member of Doyon, Ltd.; Sidney Huntington of Galena; Cliff Wehanna (Cliff Weyiouanna), mayor of Shishmaref; Robert Lyman of McGrath, mining engineer; and Hank Rosenthal of the Alaska Oil and Gas Association.
