Henry Nashaknik is interviewed by Wendy Arundale and Bill Schneider on March 15, 1982 in Barrow, Alaska. Elizabeth Hollingsworth translates. Nashaknik talks about where he was born and raised; when and why he first went up the Meade and the Ikpikpuk; his camp at Atqasuk and others in the area; camping near Qikiqtaqturuq and Anaulibiaq; how long he stayed in the Atqasuk area and working as a miner while there; driving Cat trains from Atqasuk to Barrow; why he moved to Atqasuk originally; an epidemic in the Atqasuk area; hunting for caribou and learning their movements; changes over time in the availability and movement of caribou; Sifixxak and how they drove caribou into the lake there; time he spent trapping before working at the coal mine; placenames (referring to a map); his time as a reindeer herder; sites on the Meade River; and how far he had to travel to work his trapline on the Meade.
