Abstract:
George and Marcia Brown are interviewed by Bill Schneider on October 1, 2004 in Portland, Oregon. Dr. George Brown practiced medicine at the hospital in Tanana, Alaska from 1970 to 1972, where he worked with health aides in the surrounding villages. He later had a private practice in Fairbanks. In the interview, Brown narrates as he shows pictures to Schneider, talking about the role of the physician as the health aides' primary contact, the early communication system, physician travel to the villages, and his assessment of the health aide program. His wife, Marcia, periodically interjects her own memories to add to his stories. The photographs from Dr. Brown's personal collection can be viewed on-line at the Project Jukebox URL given below.
