Betty Johnson talks about her personal and family background, growing up in Holy Cross, getting an education at the Holy Cross Mission, knowing English and her parents' cultural backgrounds, her mother's talent as a seamstress and beader, learning these skills from her mother, life at summer fishcamp, changes she's seen with the fish and the river since she was a child, the quality of education received at the Holy Cross Mission, her work and residential history, her two marriages, the hospital work she did in Anchorage and Mountain Villiage, raising a family in Anchorage, Alaska, potlatches and dancing in Holy Cross, Christmas in Holy Cross when she was a child, other celebrations during the year, reindeer at Holy Cross, the early days of trading and bartering, gardening in Holy Cross, her experiences as a store keeper, her civic contributions, the hardest thing about her life, her favorite childhood memory, her grandchildren, what she is most proud of, disappointments in her life, raising a family, and what Betty thinks is important to pass on to the next generation of kids today.
