"Red" Williams talks about arriving in Alaska, mining for George Gilbertson, Francis Doyle, Dick Ragle, learning to fly, becoming an aviation cadet, Army Air Corps, his military training, James C. Ryan, teaching at Tee Harbor, working for the Fish and Wildlife service, moving to Central, earning his mechanic's license, working for Transocean Airlines at Barrow, teaching at Nikolai, Fort Yukon, Cantwell and Fairbanks, earning his master's degree, pioneering aviators, Sam White, the third wave of bush pilots, safe flying practices, flying a Norseman on the Arctic coast, not taking risks, taking off into the wind in a box canyon, fur buying rivalries, Leo Kay, a midnight flight, Dominic Vernetti, flying in ice fog and running out of fuel, landing in the Bering River, Red Underwood, a rescue on Oliktok Point, leaving the Coastal Geodetic Survey, how air mail service changed the fur buying business, Huslia, competition in the tourism business, Bob Rice, Randy Acord, large airstrips outcompeting the smaller airplanes, competition among pilots, Fort Yukon, combining teaching and flying and scheduled commercial flights in Alaska.
