Abstract:
Tishu Ulen talks about Inupiat funeral rites and customs, the feast one year after a death, preparing garments for the celebration, parents arranging a marriage between children, changing funeral practices after the missionaries arrived, the Episcopal church, the church in Alatna, some of the women missionaries, Ann Carter, Hudson Stuck traveling by dog team, a baptism service for Martin Cisco's child, Harry Foley's wake, Jack Rafferty, people helping each other, her baptism by Hudson Stuck, the different games they played, recreational activities in the winter, skating on the river, sailing down the frozen river on a sled, and the community Christmas tree in Wiseman.
