Abstract:
Justus Mekiana talks about returning to the Killik in 1946, Frank Rulland, Maptigak's sod house, moving around in the Killik from 1946-1949, moving over to the Tulugak Lake area in 1949, John River, hunters returning to the Killik area for hunting, moving around with the caribou like the wolf does, the hunters staying out all day, planning for a group hunt, dividing the caribou meat among the hunters, driving his own dog team when he was traveling with his father, returning to Kobuk for trade, the last time they traded at Beechey Point, trading with caribou skins and wolf bounty, his father getting mail at the Kobuk post office, his father remarrying, a starvation time on the Killik, the Fish and Wildlife Service using poison to kill wolves, having groceries delivered at Tulugak Lake from Bettles, the trip from the Killik over to Tulugak Lake, Andy Anderson, Bob Rausch, forming a council, Bill Morry, Homer Mekiana, John Morry, getting a post office in Anaktuvuk Pass, what the inside of a sod house looked like, having school during the summer, ordering supplies, Pat O'Connell's store, Hunt Fork, Homer taking over the store in Anaktuvuk Pass, marrying Ethel in 1954, different ways he made money, hunting wolf pups, traveling to Ladd Field for testing, and wearing their skin clothing while they were at Ladd Field.
