Abstract:
Justus Mekiana talks about traveling along the coast, Barter Island, traveling to Ft. Yukon for trade, traveling to the ocean for seal hunting in the spring, the first time Maptigak and others traded in Ft. Yukon and used an interpreter, his grandfather trading fox skins, people in Ft. Yukon remembering a time when the Indians and the Nunamiut fought, Brownlow Point, Colville River, Itkillik River, hunting seals, Oliktok, Beechey Point, Jack Smith, spending spring and early summer on the coast, leaving for the inland after break up, staying with Mark Oolooyuk, his father working for Jack Smith, John Chris, going up the Chandler River after break up, Killik River, Old Man Morry finding gold in the Killik River, traveling to the trading post in the fall, his grandfather making a sod house at Tuluuk, Chandler River, Castle Mountain, Clyde Heigl bringing supplies to them, and wolf hunting.

Justus Mekiana talks about hunting wolves in March and April when the skins were in good condition, traveling back to the coast by dogsled, his dad working for Jack Smith, John Morry, going up the Colville and Killik Rivers to join Elijah Kakinya, sod houses, Noatak, Midas Creek, the Ambler River, Shungnak, trading at Kobuk, Simon Paneak trading at Bettles, crossing the Anaktuvuk River by boat, and his aptitude for remembering things.
