Abstract:
Mary Shields talks about her life in Wisconsin, her first experiences with dogs in Alaska, Mike and Sally Jones, moving to Fairbanks, running a dog team, John Manthei, traveling and camping with her dogs, the 1974 Iditarod Sled Dog Race, the first dog she raised from a puppy, Cabbage, Lolly Medley, traveling from Nome to Galena, Carl Huntington, some of her longer dog sledding trips, planning for trips, running in the Yukon Quest, her cabin west of Fairbanks, the Coldfoot race, Hope '91 Race, mushing to Wales from Nome, helicopters taking the dog teams across the Bering Strait, her experiences in Siberia, the Chukchi mushers, the reindeer parkas worn by the Chukchi, Kate Persons, her involvement in tourism with the Binkley family, Dixie Alexander, her books, valuing her lifestyle, and her dog tourism business in Fairbanks.
