Abstract:
Pete Bowers talks about coming to Alaska, working on archeology projects throughout the state, his dog mushing experience, some of the dog mushing exhibits he has done, archaeological evidence of early dogs in Alaska, evidence of the use of dog traction, sled and harness parts found in different parts of Alaska, how dogs are connected to a gang line, sled materials from Nunamiut and Yupik culture, harnesses, Jeff Studdert, sleds used in Interior Alaska, basket sleds, Steve Nathaniel, tools used for sled construction, the fan hitch, materials used for the snow anchor and discusses collections at the University of Alaska Museum of the North.
