Abstract:
ORAL HISTORY 99-07-01 SIDE A. Justus Mekiana talks about place names of the Killik River drainage in the Brooks Range, naming creeks after families that have lived there at one time, Suluak Creek, the meanings of some of the place names, Okokmilaga River, places where they hunted sheep in the winter, the best time to hunt during the day, Papik Mountain, where they camped in the winter and the summer, sheep crossing from Egiklak Mountain, collecting willow for snowshoes and tent frames on Kanongiksuk Creek, Old Man Morry's story about the spruce trees, hunting caribou, Tulilik Lake, graves at the lake, staying up higher in the mountains during the summer, and moving camp lower in the valleys after the mosquitoes have left.

ORAL HISTORY 99-07-01 SIDE B. Justus Mekiana talks about when the caribou migrate, predicting weather, a story about Lake Kaniksrak, fishing for grayling, Johnny Hugo, the main winter camp along the Enekalikruak Creek, Irivik Creek, sheep hunting on Togoyuk Creek, snaring caribou, pushing caribou into lakes, Lake Udrivik, and the daily migration of the caribou from the mountains to the valleys.
