Abstract:
ORAL HISTORY 99-07-02 Justus Mekiana talks about place names of the Killik River drainage in the Brooks Range, the meaning of the name for Silalinigun Creek, staying at Silalinigun when they were on the way to the Okpikruak River, Imiaknikpak Lake, catching caribou at Lake Udrivik, catching fish on the Killik River, Old Man Morry, the headwaters of the Killik River, April Creek, traveling over to the Nigu River, moving in September in anticipation of the caribou migrating through, the caribou traveling up to the mountains in the summer, migration of the caribou during different times of the year, places they hunted during the spring, and differences in hunting during old times and modern times.
