Abstract:
Paul Quist tells a Tlingit story about mosquitoes, the totem that illustrated the story carved during the last half of the century, the totem pole that was carved by Amos Wallace and based on the 19th century totem pole, and erection of the totem on the archaeological site on campus. Jim McMillan and Harvey Lyons talk about plans for the winter carnival, some of the events during the winter carnival, the dance at the end of the carnival, and naming the carnival the Golden Winter Carnival. Mel Brown and Mike Tauriainen talk about the basketball team's European tour, the People to People Sports Program, sponsorship, and how UAF became involved in the program. Paul McCarty talks about the archives program at the University of Alaska Fairbanks Library, preserving written records and manuscripts, the types of records they will be preserving, Major General C.S. Farnsworth, Anthony Dimond, Dan Sullivan, the Alaska Commercial Company, Otto Geist, Ivar Skarland, processing collections, preserving paper, storing collections, users of the archives and making donations. Betty Harab talks about the Graduate Placement Bureau at the University of Alaska, services for graduates and alumni, students seeking employment outside of Alaska, and alumni resumes.
