Abstract:
Charlotte Ames is interviewed by Margaret Van Cleve on May 25, 1994 in Fairbanks, Alaska. She reads a letter from her father to his parents, shortly after his arrival in the United States at age 14. Ames talks about her pioneer parents, Adolph and Barbara Wehner, both having lived in Dawson before coming to Fairbanks where they met at a local dance. Ames talks about learning to play the piano, from William Gorbracht, who led the Fairbanks Community Band. She was later honored for her community piano playing over the years. Ames recalls childhood Christmases written up in the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner's Heartland section, as well as describes her family home.
